How to Straighten Hair with a Perm

To straighten hair with a perm you have to apply a perm solution which helps maintain the same configuration. With this you can manage to change the shape of your hair and give yourself a completely new look. You can end up curling your hair, but mostly perms are used to straighten them. However, you need to read the instructions which come with the perm kit properly before applying the solution.

Instructions

  • 1

It is recommended that you wash your hair with shampoo two to three days before straightening the hair. You need to have your natural oils in the hair before this treatment as these oils will protect the hair against any damage.

  • 2

You then need to comb your hair so that you can remove all the tangles.

  • 3

Now prepare to protect your skin during the procedure by coating petroleum jelly on the neck and face along the hairline. This will help you prevent the perm solution from blazing the skin.

  • 4

Now put on the protective cape and gloves.

  • 5

You need to part your hair horizontally just above the ears around the head.

  • 6

By gathering the top portion of the hair you need to use some hair pins or hair clips to keep them out of the way.

  • 7

Spray the lower hair with water just to dampen them, and pay special attention to the ends of the hair as they are more likely to be damaged by the perm solution. Do keep in mind that the hair need to be only damp and not soaked in water.

  • 8

Then you have to mix the perm solution and work without actually pulling the hair. You have to take the solution right to the roots with the help of your fingers and a wide-tooth comb.

  • 9

Now keeping the strands perfectly straight, you need to comb through. Here you have to work in sections until the lower section is saturated with the perm solution.

  • 10

In order to hold the strands straight you have to clip the ends of the saturated hair and apply pressure in the downward direction. Remember to use the perm papers in which you need to fold the ends of the hair before clipping.

  • 11

You need to repeat the same procedure with the upper portion now. Be very careful not to disturb the lower portion as you comb the upper section.

  • 12

Now leave the hair according to the instructions with the perm kit.

  • 13

To check if you have achieved the required results, remove a clip from the lower section and observe the shape of the hair.

  • 14

Once you have achieved the desired shape, apply a neutralizer with the clips still on.

  • 15

You need to work from the roots to the strands while squeezing the neutralizer.

  • 16

Now remove the clips and thoroughly rinse your hair. You will have to rinse for a while with shampoo and apply a conditioner.

  • 17

Pat your hair dry with a towel.

  • 18

For the next 24 hours, try to perturb the hair as little as possible.
