    History of Westminster Bridge:

The Westminster Bridge was constructed between 1739 and 1750, after the approval was proposed back in 1664. This long delay came because the Westminster Bridge proposal was strongly opposed by the waterman and the Corporation of London. However, after a long struggle, this plan received approval from the parliament in 1736, after which the construction began.

However, by the mid 19th century, the structure of Westminster Bridge started deteriorating quite badly and it was hard to meet the maintenance expenditure of this over pass. Therefore, it was redesigned by Thomas Page and opened for traffic once again on May 24, 1862.
