Making Your Own At-Home Facial Mask

Facials and refining masks are an important and beneficial part of skincare and pampering routines. It is essential to nourish the skin on your face with these types of treatments, in order to enhance it and help it achieve its full potential. Given that your face is with you for life, a little time spent now goes a long way, and as many can vouch, a facial mask is a wonderful, luxurious experience for which people pay obscene amounts of money.

Luckily, spending a small fortune on facial masks at the spa is not necessary. Using natural household products which can easily be found in any pantry, you can create an effective and rejuvenating at-home facial mask.

Things Required:

- 1/4 cup oatmeal
- A blender/grinder
- 1-2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2-1 tablespoon honey

Instructions

  • 1

    Crush The Oats

Use your blender or grinder to crush the oatmeal. Do not grind until it becomes a powder, as you do not need it to be too fine – rather, give it a couple of quick, short pulses, until the oats are coarsely crushed. Oatmeal is a great base for an at-home facial mask, as it is an effective exfoliator, and serves to remove dirt and excess oil from skin.

  • 2

    Mix It Up

Next, in order to create the paste which you will be applying, pour the freshly ground oats out into a small bowl, and add in the honey and milk. Mix this together using a spoon, until it forms a paste – the consistency should not be too thick or runny, and should spread easily.

  • 3

    Spread It On and Wait

To apply, wash your face with your usual face wash or cleanser. Once you have patted it dry gently, spread the newly created facial mask onto your face in an even layer – for this purpose you can use a brush, or simply apply it with your fingers.

Let the mask stay on for 15-20 minutes. Take this time to relax – meditate, listen to music, or enjoy an audio book.

  • 4

    Wash It Off

Finally, use warm water to wash the face mask off once the allotted time has elapsed. Pat your face dry, and enjoy looking in the mirror.

  • Tips & Warnings

    - While oatmeal is a popular base for at-home facial masks, you can also experiment with other ingredients, like coffee, baking soda, or even ground sugar. - Substituting yogurt for milk (or using a combination of the two) is known to stimulate collagen and elastin development in the face. - Do not make more than is necessary – instead of making and storing large quantities, it is best to make a fresh facial mask every time.
