    History

The Florence Nightingale Museum was founded in 1982 with a purpose to acknowledge and appreciate the remarkable services of the kind-hearted nurse in the Crimean War. The Crimean War was fought from 1853 to 1856 between Russia and a coalition of Britain, Ottoman empire, France and Sardinia. Her excessive involvement and care for the wounded soldiers rose her to fame and recognition and she was named the 'Lady with the lamp' because of her visits to the patients with a lamp in her hand.  The Florence Nightingale Museum depicts how she, along with her team, dealt with the shortcomings of the miltiary hospital and her contribution to modern nursing practices.
