As per British laws, an infant or child that is under 16 years should have his/her own passport in order to travel abroad. This means that children who fall into this age group cannot be added anymore to their parents’ passports. This rule was introduced to avoid child abduction incidents.

The Identity and Passport Service (IPS) has a standard passport application form for individuals. This application form comes with all necessary instructions.     How to get Passport Application Form


    There are four ways to get passport application form.

    (a) You can either fill an online application form available on the official website of the IPS. After filling out the online application form submit it. IPS will send a print of it, to you on your given postal address. You have to sign it and return with the supporting documents. IPS use second class postal service therefore, you have to give them at least one week for delivery.

    (b) You can also get an application form from a post office branch near you which offers passport check and send service. With the help of official website you can locate your nearest post office in London.

    (c) Other way is to request an application form online. You will receive passport application in the next five working days on the postal address that you will provide to IPS.

    Pertinent Section

    After getting the application form, fill out the pertinent sections.

    Photos

    Then get two identical colour photos of your infant/child. These photos should show your infant/child's face against a plain light grey or plain cream backdrop. This backdrop will help distinguish the features of your infant/child.

    Professional's Sign on Photos

    Out of two identical photos, one needs to be signed from the back by a professional, who should know you and your infant/child. These professionals could be accountants, teachers, police officers, journalists, pharmacists, accountants, solicitors and so on.

    The professional who will sign your infant/child’s photo, also needs to sign the application in order to verify that he/she knows you for no less than two years.

    Get supporting documents to prove the nationality of your infant/child is British. For instance birth certificate of the infant/child together with British passport details of you and your partner.

    Return the Completed Application Form

    No Interview

    Usually IPS conduct interview after receiving passport application form. However, since it is a infant/child application therefore, no interview will be conducted.

    Receive your Infant/Child's Passport

    After specified time the passport of your infant/child will be delivered  to you through postal service on your address that you had filled in passport application form.
