How to Use Google Picasa to Manage Images

Picasa is a great application offered by Google to manage your photos in an easy way. You can download Picasa application from its official website and install in on your computer. Thereafter, you will be allowed to manage all your pictures in one window. You will also be able to edit your pictures using the same application. After you are done with editing, you can also upload your pictures on Picasa’s online portal and share them with your friends.

Using Picasa is almost same as using any other image editing program.

    Visit Picasa website at “http://picasa.google.com” and click on the “Download Picasa” button, to download the Picasa application. Once the download is complete, run the setup file and follow the onscreen prompts to complete the installation.

    After the installation is complete, run the Picasa application by double clicking its desktop icon. When running the application for the first time, it will ask your permission to scan all your images in your computer, or in “My Pictures” folder in “My Documents”.

    You can select the directories of your choice and proceed. Here, you should avoid scanning your entire computer, as it will then scan each and every image, even if it is placed in web pages or in applications.

    Picasa application will take some time to scan your computer for images, depending on the directories you selected and the number of images you have saved in the selected directories. Once the scan is complete, Picasa will sort your images by date and folder name. You can also change the name of the folder anytime you want, by just right-clicking the folder and selecting “Rename”.

    You can click on any photo, and it will appear on the main screen. You can then scroll through the photos by using arrow keys on the top preview bar. You can also add captions to photos by writing anything under the pictures.

    You can use the basic tab to crop, straighten, apply unique fill light tool and remove red eye from your images. If you want to adjust the highlight, shadow or colour of your images, then you can use the tuning tab. You can also use this tab to adjust the gray balance of your images, using neutral colour picker tool.

    In order to apply special effects, such as Glow effect, sharpening and grain effects, and focus effects, to your image, you can use the effects tab.

    In order to upload and share your photos online, you can use the bottom toolbar, available on all screens.
