Sympathy Email to Boss

When your boss falls ill or one of his loved ones passes away, you should express sympathy or condolence by writing a email, helping him ease the mental pain.

Writing a sympathy email to your boss in the difficult times can do a lot and shows that you are sensitive and care for the people you work with.

Begin the email with a subject; you can write it any way you like. The subject line is already given in the email, but it is better to write it again in the text body of the email.

Use opening salutations. You can write Dear Sir; however, using the boss’s name is better as it sounds more intimate and sympathetic.

Acknowledge the pain or loss in the first paragraph. Start by saying that you are deeply saddened to hear of his/her loss or illness. Do not prolong the first paragraph as it is intended to let the reader know what the purpose of the email is. Try to console the reader in the first few words and extend your sympathy to others in the following paragraphs.

In the second paragraph, express your hope, talking about how confident you are about him/her and want to see him/her get back to normal life soon. You can share an experience. but be sure to keep it as short as possible.

    Dear James,

I am really sorry to know about your illness and have been praying for you ever since I came to know about your health issues. All the coworkers and managers are concerned for you and they want to see you return to office soon.

It is due to your guidance that we have been able to keep the office running in your absence. However, I hope that your presence will once again boost the morale and motivate to work even harder.

I pray for your health, and hope to see you back at office in the next few days.

    Dear (Sir/recipient name),

I am deeply saddened to hear about the demise of your uncle. I sincerely pray for him, you and all your family members.

I never got a chance to meet your uncle, who also had been a successful businessman in his life, but I know that he was an inspiration to people he was close to. I cannot even begin to feel the pain you are going through right now and pray to God to give you some patience.

    With deepest sympathy,

    (Sender name)
