Yahoo launches Axis Browser

In the end of last year, Yahoo filed for a trademark that raised number of questions. The trademark was “Yahoo Axis” that was based on the phrase. Initially, it was not explicable but after six months Yahoo spilled the proverbial beans. Axis is made for your browser as a new search-oriented ad on. In addition, it is also a new browser app for iOS.

Ethan Batraski, Yahoo Director of Product Management spoke about his job description that his job is to find out what exactly search will look like in the upcoming years. The answer he gave was Yahoo Axis.

“No one’s innovated on ‘How do I get rid of the search results page altogether’”, Batraski said. “That is what we want to do.”

That is exactly they have tried to do. You need to download and install Yahoo Axis on your system. Once you are done with this process, sign into Axis with your Yahoo credentials and a back bar that is small in size, will appear in the bottom corner of the web browser you are currently using.  At this time, Axis is compatible with Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Internet Explorer. Although, Batraski is quite confident that Yahoo will release its own browser that will be of enough interest.

There is a search bar in that little black pill, and when you move the cursor of your mouse over it, it will stretch across the bottom of your browser. When you click in the search box and plug in a search query, the bar will spread to fill approximately the bottom third of your browser window. Besides that it will exhibit easily scannable thumbnails of Yahoo’s search results.

The main idea behind this is to give Yahoo search engine a flexible space so that people come out of the conventional browser paradigm. If you have axis installed in your browser, you do not need to open another page or a new tab, and you can easily find things online in the current page. However, once you are used to it, you do not need to open a new tab, a bang and a search query into the address bar like a Chrome user, who has been doing this over the years.

When Axis works, it works excellently.  However, sometimes the black search box will fail to close appropriately and thus leaving behind a partial reminder of the last search result thumbnail in its place.

But one thing that is extremely irritating in Axis is when you try to scroll side to side the thumbnails of search results. Users can select and move them with a press buttons on the left and right side of the result panel. However, scrolling horizontally with the help of trackpad can be quite difficult. Because of which you are unable to see some results as it affects the results to move over three results at one time. Although, it is a minor point of connection and it is easy to fix.
