How to Make a Pirate Costume

Thinking about dressing up like a pirate? Our guess is that either Halloween is just around the corner or maybe a costume party? Perhaps you really are planning on becoming a modern day pirate or its some form of role play to keep things spicy between you and your partner. Whatever the case, we are not here to judge but rather to assist you in fulfilling your needs, however, quirky they may be.

The basic thing to remember about pirates is that scruffy and unruly is good and so is overdressing when it comes to jewellery. However, the main part of dressing as a pirate is an eye patch. Chicks love the eye patch.

Things Required:

– an eye patch
– a wooden leg sleeve
– a hook an arm
– fake facial hair
– ragged clothes
– a hat
– a periscope or telescope
– plenty of fake jewellery including necklaces and rings
– bad breath
– a stench emanating from every nuance of your being
– a parrot on your shoulder
– a few fake scars

The first step is to apply the makeup and the odour. In order to do this we would recommend using polish and applying it roughly around the facial area and anywhere where skin will be exposed. On the makeup front we would advise applying mascara and darkening your eyebrows.

  • 2

It would be wise to begin applying the base layer of clothing on your costume at this time. This will include the wooden leg sleeve, which will make your leg look as if it is made out of wood.

  • 3

Put the pants on first before the rest of the clothes. Once all the clothes have been put on you may begin decorating yourself with the jewellery and extras.

  • 4

Make sure each finger has a ring on it, two rings per finger would be even better. Do not forget to add a number of ear piercings either. You may use the clip on ones if the permanency factor is an issue for you. Plenty of necklaces are also advised.

Now you may add the hook for a hand to get the classic pirate feel and look but before doing that make sure you wear the eye patch and the hat.
