Difference between Lox and Smoked Salmon

Smoked salmon and lox are both made from salmon fish, which is generally found in the Pacific and North Atlantic Ocean. They have got various nutritional benefits and are full of proteins. Therefore, they are the best form of meat and one must definitely consume them in order to stay healthy.

However, one must also learn the difference between smoked salmon and lox, as they are two completely different food items. Most people believe that they have a similar taste because of the fact that they are both prepared from the same fish. This is a completely incorrect perception, as the ingredients and methods involved in cooking both these dishes are different.

First of all, you need to understand that lox is not smoked, which gives it a different taste altogether. You can try both dishes to find out the taste difference yourself.

There are different ways in which lox can be prepared, whereas  smoked salmon can only be prepared through one method.

Another difference between the two is that smoked salmon is more popular as compared to lox, as it develops a special taste after being prepared.

    The word lox has been derived from a German term ‘lachs,’ which is used to refer to salmon fish. There are different types of lox prepared all over the world and they are all exceedingly popular. Some of the most popular recipes are Regular Lox, Scottish Lox, Nova Lox, and Gravlax.

    In order to prepare lox, a fillet of salmon fish is brined in salt and a sugar solution, which gives it a unique taste. It is later cured and then can be sliced into thin slices and eaten with some of your favourite side dishes.
