Difference Between UNSW and USYD

UNSW and USYD are two universities in Australia by the name of University of New South Wales and University of Sydney. Many students confuse the two names and consider them the same but in reality, there is a huge difference.

Although both universities are located in Sydney, University of New South Wales is in Kensington whereas University of Sydney is in Darlington.

UNSW was founded in 1949 and is considered to be an institution with some of the modern facilities in the country. On the other hand, USYD is the oldest university of the country as it was founded in 1850. It is Australia’s second largest university whereas UNSW is the third largest.

UNSW has a total of nine faculties whereas USYD has a total of 16; the University of Sydney offers education in more subjects than the University of New South Wales.

UNSW has a total strength of 46,000 students whereas USYD has a total strength of 50,000 students. It also has a better worldwide ranking than the University of Sydney.

Both universities cater to a large number of international students; most such students that are admitted to these two universities are from Asian countries.

    University of New South Wales

    UNSW was founded in 1949 and is currently one of the best universities in Australia. It has a capacity of 46,000 students and is located in Kensington, Sydney. The university had a worldwide ranking of 46 in 2010 and is considered to be one of the best institutions of the region.

    The university provides education in nine faculties and also receives a large number of grants and endowments from the state.

    UNSW also encourages research activities and spends heavily on them. The sum of grants and endowments reached $1.08 billion in the year 2010.

    University of Sydney

    USYD was founded in 1850 and is the country’s oldest university. It has a total strength of 50,000 students and is the second largest university in Australia. It is located in Darlington, Sydney, and has a worldwide ranking of 37 in the year 2010.

    The University of Sydney offers 16 faculties, which is the most offered by any university in the country. USYD is known to offer a large number of scholarships which can go up to $22 million in a year.

    The institution also receives one of the highest funds for grants and endowments. The sum totalled $937 million in the year 2010.
