How To Apply Corrective Base Makeup

Whether it’s old acne scars, bruises, or even tattoos, virtually anything can be covered with a little corrective base makeup. Concealing imperfections isn’t as easy as smoothing some foundation on to your skin – however, if you follow the correct procedure, you should be able to amp up your confidence and comfort level by concealing just about any flaws you choose.

Things Required:

– Concealer brush (camouflage brush)
– Neutralising corrective makeup (of a proper hue)
– Skin coloured corrective makeup
– Powder foundation

Start by purchasing the correct equipment. Your main tool in applying corrective base makeup will be a concealer brush, also known as a camouflage brush. This is a special brush, which has very small bristles that will help you hide imperfections effectively.

Next you will need to buy two base concealers. One will need to be a neutralising corrective concealer – this should be of a particular hue (such as yellow, green, or blue), which will help you conceal the imperfection. Choose the tint carefully – if you are looking to cover blue tones (such as tattoos or bruises), go for a yellow hue, if you need to conceal red spots (like acne), opt for a green hue, and if you want to hide brown spots (like birthmarks), select a purple-tinted neutralising concealer.

The second concealer you need to buy should be a perfect (or as perfect as you can manage) match of your natural skin tone. Make sure you get a shade that appears as natural and unobtrusive as possible on your skin.

First, apply your neutralising concealer over the imperfection, making sure you smooth the makeup over it to cover it evenly and completely. Allow it to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Next, smooth the skin coloured concealer over the neutralising corrective base. This should be a light, gentle layer – apply it over, and then extend it beyond the edges of the neutralising concealer, making sure you blend it in to your skin to give it a natural look.

Finally, apply some powder foundation (which matches your skin tone) over the whole of your skin, to give it all a natural, even look. Make sure you don’t work the brush too hard over the area where you have applied the corrective base makeup, and you’re good to go.
