How to Bake Teething Biscuits for a Baby

Teething can be a hard period for a baby and his mother, especially for a first time mother. Commercial teethers are available for the child to much on and develop teeth. You can make the experience more enjoyable for him by baking him teething biscuits which are tasty, soft and chewy. These biscuits can sooth his sore gums and also encourage growth of new teeth. Since they are made with nutritious ingredients, you can be sure of the health benefits. You can make your baby teething biscuits yourself at home using simple on hand ingredients. This way you will be sure of the contents of anything you feed him. They are so tasty you will find yourself drawing out a hand for a serving. Our step by step guide shows you how to bake teething biscuits for your baby.

Preparation time: 40 minutes (includes 20 minutes bake time)

Serving size: The ingredients below make two dozen biscuits

Utensils: mixing bowls, cookie cutters, spoon and baking sheet


– 2 tablespoon shortening

– 1/4 cup sugar

– 1 egg

– 1 teaspoon baking powder

– 1/4 teaspoon salt

– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

– 1 teaspoon water or juice (I used water)

– 2 cups dry baby cereal

    Preheat your oven to 300 degrees. Now grease the baking sheet with some butter. You can also use olive oil instead of butter. However, avoid ingredients like wheat, rice and honey for children under one year age.

    Take a mixing bowl. Add to it the eggs, baking powder, salt, vanilla and water. Mix everything well together. Now add in the baby cereal gradually in the mixing bowl. Knead with clean hands so that there is a smooth and firm dough for the biscuits.

    Pat the dough into a rectangle. Now you can cut of any shape that you want the cookies to be. You can cut simple rectangle biscuits or use cookie cutters to make round or heart shaped to make it more interesting for your child. However, avoid  shapes with sharp edges as they can harm the child's mouth and gums. Place the cookies on the baking sheet and bake for around twenty minutes.
