How to Write a Divorce Settlement Agreement

A divorce settlement or marital settlement agreement is a document that describes the authority of joint property, debts and other things. It is very important for a couple, who is going through a divorce, to avoid traumatic and complicated legal process as it can double the trouble for a person.

    To avoid the any dispute regarding custody of children, you should clearly mention the person who will have guardianship. Do specify the rights of visiting the kids. Try to keep all the terms and conditions simple and flexible.

    You must state clearly that both parties will shoulder their responsibilities and provide all that is needed for the better growth of kids. Give complete details of alimony that one party is going to pay to the other.

    State clearly that who is going to keep which property. Declare that the owner will be responsible to pay all the taxes and charges. Do not leave anything pending and divide all the tangible property.
    If both parties have already gone through this distribution process then mention that in this agreement.

    Give details of loans, total amount and their due date. Specify the person who will be responsible to clear all these debts. Do mention their shares in case of joint responsibility.
